“Never put off tomorrow what you can do today” – Thomas Jefferson
Everytime you say you will start tomorrow ask yourself just one simple question:
What guarantee do I have that I’ll do it tomorrow?
This reminds you of two things:
- That life is pretty short and unpredictable, so what guarantee do you have that you’ll have the opportunity to do it tomorrow?
- That your future self is going to face entirely different circumstances than what your current self does, and if your past behavior is indicative of anything, you probably won’t do it.
The takeaway is this, there is no guarantee.
There is no guarantee you’ll start eating healthier tomorrow,
There is no guarantee you’ll start exercising tomorrow,
There is no guarantee you’ll make time for family and friends tomorrow,
There is no guarantee you’ll stop smoking tomorrow,
That’s the point, tomorrow is never guaranteed.
The only guarantee you have is today, right now, if you’re reading this now you can get up and walk for 20 minutes, or make a healthier lunch choice, you can do that right now, it’s guranteeed as long as you make the choice.
Don’t put your trust in tomorrow. Always put it in today, it’s the only certainty you have that anything you want to do will get done.
